Are you a Jesus Whisperer?
I’m sitting at a shared cafe table and across from me are a couple of ladies in their 60’s (maybe 70’s) chatting about the world and life.
As you’d expect there are plenty of topics being discussed – family, the coffee, clothes, the rain, how to use phones, meals, conversations they’ve had with others and church.
What stands out is the volume of the conversations – whenever the conversation is about church, it becomes hard to hear what they’re saying…….. they virtually whisper.
How often are we like this?
We barrack unashamedly for our favourite sports team, share our opinions easily on politics, culture, cars and everything else but so often we wont talk very publicly about our faith and Jesus Christ, the one in whom we have faith and hope in.
Have you ever read the account of Peter and the crowing rooster? (John chapter 18) It can seem like a story of weakness and hard to believe that someone so close to Jesus Christ would deny he knew Jesus, three times, even when warned that he would?
And yet this is something we do ourselves. Why whisper?
It shouldn’t be because we fear shame or embarrassment – He died for us, we must live for Him (2 Cor 5.15)
It shouldn’t be because of concern others might be offended – He died for us, we must let others know (2 Tim 1.8)
If you catch yourself wanting to hide the life that Jesus has in you, don’t be afraid – he is with you and you never know what the consequences might be if what you share is heard by someone else. Small seeds in the right places can grow mightily.
God has made you and put you wherever you are on this planet for his purposes. Be an influence for Him wherever you are. Be real, be honest, be humble, love God and love others.
Where there is boldness and a confidence in God, you’ll find a humble, faithful servant of the cross.
